Back to the football's past

Polish footballers recreate the past in a photoshoot for a 2019 calendar. The calendar is meant to commemorate the 100th anniversary of establishing the Polish Football Association (PZPN).

The stars who took part in the photoshoot are, among others, Robert Lewandowski, Wojciech Szczęsny, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Polish national team coach Jerzy Brzęczek.

Each of the football players posed in an outfit reminiscent of important events from the beginning of the history of Polish football. Lewandowski, Bayern Munich’s star player, wore the football attire from Poland’s first professional international football game against Hungary in 1921.

From the photos, one can tell that the players had fun during the session and enjoyed this journey to Poland’s football past: “If only we could go back several years…” writes the PZPN's Łączy nas Piłka portal on Twitter.

Wojciech Szczęsny (pictured above), who is the goalkeeper for Juventus, presented himself in a historic goalkeeper shirt from the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. Krychowiak, Lokomotiv Moscow’s midfielder, dressed as a footballer from the 1938 World Cup.

It is a memorable tournament, because it was Poland’s debut at the Cup during which they played a dramatic game against Brazil which they lost 5:6. Coach Brzęczek wore a suit from the 1920s.
