Pereira is shocked by this sudden change and raised the following questions: “Why did they change their opinion? What sort of arguments were presented to PO MEPs as part of the EPP?”.

He argues that “it is German interests that are the most prevalent when it comes to pressure and lobbying in the EU Parliament”. He also drew attention to the fact that German “Der Spiegel” even wrote that this directive outright “fulfills the policies of Axel Springer”.

Pereira claims that German publishers will benefit most from tighter internet control.

That is a repetition of a certain political scheme: the changes to the law are being forced and are unsupported by the majority of European society

In July, PO’s official twitter account tweeted: “NO to ACTA2! YES to internet freedom!”:

Now, PO MEPs deny any claims of having opposed ACTA2 and try to explain their votes in favor: “We’ve already heard claims that this is an attack on internet freedom. A bigger lie cannot be made up,” says PO MEP Tadeusz Zwiefka.

“These are actions which will benefit internet users. It will help them feel safer.”

The head of TVP Info warns that the newest regulations are much more dangerous than the first ACTA in 2012.

He underlines that we are seeing a repetition of certain political outlines: “The changes to the law are being forced and are unsupported by the majority of European society.”
