Each contract, signed with Venture Global Calcasieu Pass LLC and Venture Global Plaquemines LNG LLC, foresees an annual purchase of 1 million tons of LNG gas (1.35 billion m3 of natural gas after regasification), over the course of 20 years.

The chairman of PGNiG Piotr Woźniak underlines that the LNG gas from America is 20 percent cheaper than gas from the East.

Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has expressed his delight at the signing of the agreement: “I’m glad we can fulfill our aim of raising the sovereignty and competitiveness of our gas sector. Our predecessors wanted to sign a contract with Gazprom, which would have put us in gas manacles.”

“This agreement is the first of its kind in Central Europe and is a straight path to energetic sovereignty,” said energy minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski

The gas supply may also be used for further revenue on international markets and will be realized in a free-on-board formula. This will allow Poland to independently decide whether to keep the LNG gas in Poland or redirect it for trade.
