“We are pro-European,” says Kaczyński

Talking about "Polexit" doesn’t harm Law and Justice (PiS), but it harms Poland, says PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński. He remains adamant that his party is pro-European.

“We haven’t changed our stance on the EU,” Kaczyński said in a television interview on Polsat News. “We have always been pro-European, that is, in favor of Poland remaining in the EU, and we still are. Nothing has changed,” he added.

Kaczyński believes that the problem of Polexit is simply a propaganda issue. According to the PiS leader “the real issue lies with Civic Platform (PO) that was seeking good jobs and posts for its politicians. Meanwhile, PiS is seeking to benefit Polish interests.”

Jarosław Kaczyński is not worried about minister of justice Zbigniew Ziobro’s recent notion to the Polish Constitutional Tribunal. Opposition parties said that Ziobro undermined European Union treaties when he asked the Tribunal to rule that Polish judges have no right to consult the European court’s opinion on the country’s controversial judicial reform.

“He [Ziobro] has certain duties which stem from the Polish constitution,” said Kaczyński and added that these duties must be realized and that they “have nothing to do with Polexit or some kind of anti-Europeanness.”

He pointed to the German Federal Court of Justice that has looked into similar cases and settled them in “the same direction as the one suggested by Ziobro in his notion.”
