Frontex: More intensive expulsion of migrants is a necessity

FRONTEX chief Fabrice Leggeri says the EU cannot get rid of illegal immigrants and a more intensive expulsion policy is a necessity, otherwise the problem cannot be solved.

Although a number of immigrants who illegally entered the European Union has decreased to around 75,000 this year compared to 1.2 million in 2015, the number of those who illegally stay in the EU is constantly rising.

“If we continue to do so, we send all potential immigrants a message: Try to get to Europe at all costs because event if you are caught you have a huge chance of staying there,“ Leggeri said and also appealed to EU countries to harmonize their rules and procedures related to expulsion.

Another question to ask is where should the ships with immigrants disembark and why can’t there be some entrance center somewhere else in Europe.
