A relocation of the Czech Embassy in Israel shouldn’t be rushed, it is wiser to wait for other states to join us, to talk them into it, other V4 countries may get on board, the Chief of Senate Jaroslav Kubera told the press after a meeting with the President and speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.
The three highest constitutional representatives also discussed Zeman’s intention not to sign the same-sex marriage bill. According to Kubera, it won’t be easy to put this bill though both chambers of the Parliament in the first place.
Kubera expressed his wish to settle the relationship between the President and the Senate, which has been damaged by Zeman’s calls to ‘starve the Upper Chamber out’. On the other hand, some Senators have been vocal critics of Zeman’s controversial steps. I’ve invited Mr. President to introduce to us a candidate for the Constitutional Court, Mr. Gerloch, and I hope he will accept, said Kubera.
Regarding Zeman’s recent announcement that he is not going to appoint two professors, Kubera responded that he considers his reasons relevant, but he doesn’t find them worth provoking a dispute with universities. "We shouldn’t just repeat we want to unite our society, but rather be doing something about it, it is one of the things I don’t agree with Mr. President," added Kubera.
