Budapest to host 2023 Athletics World Championship

The Monaco-based International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) awarded Budapest the right to host the 2023 Athletics World Championship.

The event will be held at a new athletics stadium that will be built in the southern part of the Hungarian capital (see image above). It will have a permanent capacity of 15,000, and for the event will be extended to 40,000.

"In the past 30 years Hungary has organized every single world and European Championships, indoor and out - on the road, cross country – available to us except for the World Athletics Championships, and we are incredibly proud that this collection will be complete in just under five years’ time," said European Athletics Council member Márton Gyulai, CEO of the Bid Committee for Budapest 2023.
