U.S. multinational Visa, one of the global leaders in digital payments, has announced plans to open a global Technology and Product Hub in Poland, the first project of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe and the fifth worldwide.

The investment is expected to provide around 1,500 job opportunities for technology specialists.

Visa plans to leverage the skills of young professionals from the region to drive product development and innovation on a larger scale. Poland’s growing reputation as a hub for top technology specialists aligns with Visa’s goal of fostering innovation and investment in Europe, the company wrote in a statement.

“Poland has highly skilled workers and a rapidly developing I.T. sector. That is precisely why it is an ideal place for acquiring new talents and creating new payment solutions in cooperation with our partners and companies,” added Visa’s President of Technology Rajat Taneja.

“It is exceptionally good news that Visa, with its unique world-scale experience and know-how, chooses our country among other potential locations, thus building Poland’s position as the best place for investments in the new technology industry,” said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after a meeting with Jakub Kwierec, Visa’s managing director in Central and Eastern Europe.

Morawiecki emphasized that Poland was chosen, among other reasons, due to the high qualifications of Polish I.T. sector workers and the significant talent pool in the labor market.

Polish Finance Minister Magdalena Rzeczkowska indicated that Poland aimed to “facilitate cooperation between investors and the Polish administration,” and for this purpose, the Investor Tax Service Center was established.

President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) Dr. Paweł Kurtasz stated that the PAIH’s support process for Visa included a variety of activities, such as providing information about the I.T. sector, discussing Poland’s potential, and advising on the company’s development prospects in the country.

“This investment solidifies Poland’s position as a leading destination for advanced investment projects in Central and Eastern Europe and confirms how highly regarded Polish programmers are on the global I.T. scene,” Kurtasz added.
