Priest attacker says he was inspired by Sekielski film

An assailant who stabbed a priest in a Wrocław Church has appeared in court. He indicated that the attack was because of a film about instances of child abuse in the Polish Catholic Church.

Father Ireneusz Bakalarczyk was stabbed in front of a Wrocław Church at the beginning of the week by a 57-year-old assailant who was apprehended soon after. The priest suffered wounds to his chest and stomach. He has undergone an operation and has survived.

On Tuesday a Wrocław court incarcerated the man for three months. He has been charged with attempted murder.

According to Fakt, the attacker revealed why he committed the crime. He said that “the Sekielski film was a good lead” and that he had no regret about it.

He was referring to “Tell no one” which premiered on YouTube in May and has gone viral with 22 million hits. The film documents cases of child abuse in Poland’s Catholic Church.
