France: Head of pro-migrant aid organization murdered in his sleep by Afghan man

The president of a pro-migrant activist organization was reportedly murdered on Tuesday by a 20-year-old man of Afghan origin in Cherbourg in northwestern France.

The Frenchman, 63-year-old Jean Dussine, was a retired teacher and former director of Gonneville School who currently serving as president of migrant assistance group Itinérance.

The murder occurred mid-morning on Tuesday, May 12, at the victim’s home at 25 route de la Monteux in Bretteville-en-Saire, east of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche).

According to information of actu.fr, the suspect staying at Dussine’s home after being offered refuge by Dussine. The unnamed suspect allegedly beat Dussine to death during sleep by repeatedly hitting him with an iron rod.

The Cherbourg prosecutor’s office has confirmed the arrest of an individual, a migrant of Afghan origin aged 20 years who was quickly taken into police custody after the murder. Police confirm that the suspect cannot speak French.

There is currently no motive, but police are continuing their investigation.

Parisian by birth, Dussine took over the presidency of the Itinérance association in 2016.

A similar story also happened last year in France, where a medical student and pro-migrant activist also from Normandy, was stabbed to death by a migrant she was reportedly housing. Audrey Coignard (27), was brutally stabbed 14 times and found in a pool of her own blood at her home in Saint-Ouen, near Paris.
