Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz described Polish-American relations as positive and focused on a strategic partnership concerning security, defense and energy security.

The minister said that after Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, the U.S. has become heavily involved in strengthening the defense capabilities of countries in the Central-Eastern European region.

He noted that presidents Donald Trump and Andrzej Duda had signed declarations on defense cooperation and expanding U.S. military presence in Poland in 2018 and 2019.

The head of Polish diplomacy informed that in terms of military security, American engagement in Poland is being conducted both as part of NATO and bilateral relations.

Czaputowicz also reflected on Trump’s decision to roll back some U.S. troops from Germany, pointing out that an analysis of this move will only be possible after the new location of the American forces has been revealed.

He stressed, however, that strong Trans-Atlantic ties based on US involvement in Europe were crucial to both Poland and Germany — a position confirmed by the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas during his talks with Czaputowicz.
