As part of a four-county action, Hungarian uniformed police inspected a Polish-registered car with a 13-year-old Croatian citizen on the M1 motorway in the northern Komárom area on August 10, 2021, the Székesfehérvár unit of the National Intervention Police reported on Wednesday.
In addition to the child driver, four other men claiming to be Syrian citizens were traveling in the car. Foreign passengers could not provide credible proof of their identity and the legality of their stay in Hungary, so they were apprehended by the police, together with the child driving the vehicle.
They are currently being interrogated at the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters.
Being underage, the unnamed Croatian boy will not face charges for either driving without a license or for people smuggling.
