Europe leads in readiness for online shopping with the Czech Republic placing 25th out of 152 countries, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) index.

The Czech Republic’s place also improved year-on-year by six ranks.

The UNCTAD index takes into account the access to secure internet servers, the reliability of postal services and infrastructure, and the portion of the population in the country that uses the internet and has an account at a financial institution or mobile-money-service provider.

Even though Czechia placed at an amazing 25th place, Slovakia ranked even higher, placing 24th in the ranking.

Compared to countries with better results, the Czech Republic has lower scores in the area of the reliability of postal services and the proportion of people with a bank account.

Overall, eight European countries – the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Britain, Denmark, Norway, Ireland and Germany – placed in the top ten.

Besides these countries, Singapore ranked third while Australia finished at number ten.

The survey further showed that 80 percent of internet users in six countries, i.e., Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Britain, do their shopping online.

In comparison, in more than 20 poorer countries, less than 10 percent of internet users buy products online.

UNCTAD stressed that the ranking is provisional as some of the data still dates back to 2017.

As the latest data concerns internet security and the reliability of the postal service, these parameters are the ones making the biggest difference in the ranking compared to previous years.
