Hungarian think-tank drafts EU transparency proposal

Lomnici said EU funding for George Soros’ organizations can only be reined in if at the upcoming elections national powers succeed in gaining a majority.

Századvég recently made a proposal for the increased control over EU leaders and institutions.

“This proposal could end wasteful spending of the EU’S financial resources, but also its biased and anti-competition decisions,” Lomnici said.

He said the main goal of the proposal is to ensure that the money of the Union’s citizens serves their long-term needs and creates the foundation of a sustainable and secure existence of the next generations.

He said the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers and the Commission are the Union’s three most profligate bodies. Despite the fact that the seven-year budget of the group somewhat restricts excessive spending and annual budgets must also be approved by member states, neither the European Court of Auditors (ECA) nor the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) can or are willing to uncover all irregular spending.

Lomnici said one of the most critical areas is the funding of NGOs, pointing out that the European Parliament has recently increased the financing of Soros’ human rights NGO network to EUR 1.8 billion (US$2.06 billion), a move that is both difficult to understand from a legal perspective, ignores the legitimate demands of EU citizens and is instrumental in the forceful promotion of outside influences and interests.
