Babiš’s main worry is that the GCM is meant to establish responsibilities for member states to accept migrants. “The definition of migration is also not what it should be,” he says and explains that the Czech minister of the interior is currently preparing an analysis of the document to see how it will affect the coutry’s interior policies.

The Czech PM says that although he “did not like the GCM agreement”, he believes that it is necessary to analyze and discuss it among the Czech government. As to whether the Czech Republic will not sign the document, Babiš says, “I don’t know. But I cannot rule that out.”

Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania should be a part of Schengen and we should stand guard at the sea and protect Europe from an influx of immigrants

Andrej Babiš argues that the EU’s Southern borders should be better protected. “Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania should be a part of Schengen and we should stand guard at the sea and protect Europe from an influx of immigrants.”

Although Babiš supports the EU, he is critical of the European Commission. As an example of EC authority over his country, he faced the European Social Fund and its lightly imposed social programs. Whereas the Czechs needed additional funds for investments and received less than in previous years. “It turns out that we can’t decide,” argues Babiš and claims that “reform is necessary. Brexit is proof of that.”
