Hungary respects all regulations regarding the treatment of asylum seekers, the Immigration and Asylum Office (BAH) said, according to Magyar Hírlap.

“We are proceeding exactly as prescribed by (the relevant) legislation, taking into account the rights of those with special needs and above all those of the children,” BAH said.

Last week the Hungarian Helsinki Committee (MHB) raised the issue of the unfair treatment of asylum-seekers whose requests have been rejected by the first instance but were waiting for their appeals to be processed.

MHB also filed a related lawsuit against Hungary at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Until the completion of legal proceedings, the ECHR implemented a number of interim measures, among which it “demanded Hungarian authorities to feed all members of the families kept in the transit zones”.

This was based on claims by the MHB that only children were being fed in these zones, but not their parents awaiting the outcome of their appeals.

BAH also said that international and EU organizations are constantly monitoring the situation in the transit zones and that Hungarian authorities comply with relevant legislation and EU directives.
