President Macron can only lose if he takes on Viktor Orbán and Matteo Salvini, Belgian professor Jean Bricmont said.
Not only is Macron a hypocrite, but he has made a fatal mistake by picking a fight with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Italian Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini on the issue of migration.
"Both Orbán and Salvini and very popular at home - Macron cannot claim the same about himself", Jean Bricmont, professor at the Louvain Catholic University said in an interview with Origo.hu.
Bricmont - a theoretical physicist and rationalist philosopher - said Macron has maneuvered himself into a suicidal position.

Bricmont said Macron's hypocrisy is evident from the fact that while he publicly states his position to welcome migrants, he is keeping the Italian-French border closed to the thousands of migrants who want to enter France.
He also spoke about the differences between Hungary and Italy, saying that "Italy and Hungary are a little bit different – Hungary has never been a colonial power. They are not responsible for the wars in the Middle East… Why should they accept migrants? … Maybe you can say by charity. But they can say ‘We have got a lot of problems to solve first".
As for Salvini’s and Orbán's potential to redraw the map of the European parliament in the next elections, a very strong anti-migration discourse has emerged in France and Bricmont said he expects a large bloc of anti-migrant deputies to be elected.
