Orbán congratulates Poles on centenary

In a letter to PM Mateusz Morawiecki, Viktor Orbán congratulated Poles on the 100th anniversary of their independence. “We are united by a true and selfless friendship,” wrote the Hungarian PM.

“Let me congratulate you and the Polish nation on the occasion of the 100thanniversary of Poland regaining her independence,” Orbán wished in the letter.

“The 100th anniversary of establishing the Polish Republic is a great celebration for the whole Polish nation. We, Hungarians, share that will all our heart,” he added. 

The Hungarian PM warned that although both nations can say that they are free and independent, the “winds of history are not subsiding around us. The independence of Hungary and Poland are at risk of serious attacks, even today.”

PM Orbán also emphasized the Europeaness of Poland and Hungary: “We, Hungarians and Poles, are European nations with a millennium long past and that is why we’ve always wanted a strong Europe. A Europe proud of her history and religious and cultural traditions. We know what it means to fight for freedom, which is why we care for it in any circumstances.”

The prime minister stressed the special friendship which Poland and Hungary share: “We are united by a true and selfless friendship, thanks to which we’ve always could and still can count on each other.”

The Hungarian leader concluded his letter with the words: “Long live free and independent Poland!”
