The United States may be the world’s leading power but is itself confused and marred by internal divisions, Polish historian Marek Jan Chodakiewicz said in an interview with Magyar Idők.

He said billionaire financier George Soros is putting a lot of his own money into creating a world of his own making.

“Unlike many of his critics and opponents, Soros devotes money to create a world envisioned by him and does not do so spending other people’s money,” Chodakiewicz said. He added that over past 30 years Soros has spent in excess of US$3 billion on stoking revolutions in the former Soviet bloc, legalizing marijuana in the United States and influencing law enforcement and the judicial system.

“He believes these will lead to reforms that aim to create an open society. But I think he is playing with fire.”

Chodakiewicz contributed to Donald Trump’s Warsaw speech delivered on July 6th, 2017. He has been accused of anti-Semitism for his participation but said the whole issue blew over very quickly, probably because he didn’t react to the accusations.

He also said that the United States is interested in having a stable, peaceful and prosperous Europe. For this reason, he said, the presence of U.S. troops is reassuring.

“The NATO and American military presence in Europe is a sort of insurance policy for the host countries, assuring that if U.S. military installations or troops are in danger, the United States will intervene immediately”.
