Seehofer: Migration is the mother of all problems

The government should, according to German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, learn quickly from Chemnitz, otherwise it will lose voter confidence.

“Migration is the mother of all problems,“ Seehofer said. His statement is in contrast with that of Chancellor Angela Merkel who criticized in particular the demonstrations of the opponents of migration which she calls the far right.

At a closed CSU meeting in Neuhardenberg on Wednesday, Seehofer said that when people revolt it does not mean they are Nazis. He added that if he were not a minister, he would go to the streets as well.

Those who performed the Nazi salute at the demonstration deserve a punishment, but it does not mean that when someone comes into the street, he or she is a neo-Nazi.

“Many people now associate their social problems with the issue of migration,“ Federal Interior Minister Rheinische Post said along with a statement that if Germany does not change its immigration policy, traditional political parties will keep losing voters´ support.

The traditional political parties indeed lose support. Based on the survey released on Wednesday, the political party Alternative for Germany (AfD), anti-immigration party, has the second largest support in the country.

Die Welt also recalled that Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer also spoke differently than Merkel who condemned the “hunt for foreigners“. The events in Chemnitz must be described correctly: “Naturally, there were no crowd, no lynch, no pogrom“.
