Tusk plays the cool dude

The former PM and present Head of the European Council uses his interrogation as a witness by the Parliamentary Committee investigating a financial scandal to portray himself as both victim and aggressor, writes Adrian Stankowski on the “Niezależna” portal.

The Tusk hearing was far from an ordinary testimony of a witness appearing before an organ of state. In fact we witnessed a battle to create an image in which the former PM was trying to emulate former MP Beata Sawicka and present himself as a victim of political attacks. (Sawicka was trapped in an anti-corruption sting and won people over by crying in front of TV cameras saying she was being victimized.)

Tusk seems to have learned from the results of the last election about the effectiveness of such a mascarade. It seems that personal propriety of candidates no longer constitutes a key criteria for electoral choice. Candidates such as the Mayor of Łódz convicted of falsifying information on a credit application are a case in point.

By demonstrating arrogance and aggression towards members of the Investigative Committee Donald Tusk is acting like a “marquis” showing contempt towards all those Poles who dream of a honest country

This shows how the liberal opposition intends to position itself and crates a serious dilemma for the conservative government. On the one hand the government should insist on executing the law, but on the other it seems that they are getting trapped by being perceived as victimizing the opposition.

By demonstrating arrogance and aggression towards members of the Investigative Committee Donald Tusk is acting like a “marquis” showing contempt towards all those Poles who dream of a honest country. This is the only way of describing the former PM’s acts of evading responsibility for his own negligence and excusing himself from failing to exercise the duties of the state.

Donald Tusk testified before the Investigative Committee on November 5th. He was attacked for failing to do anything to stop a financial pyramid, Amber Gold, developing.
