Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio and his Five Star Movement to suspend funding to the EU unless other states agree to take migrants. The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, then criticized the V4 for their unwillingness to accept migrants.

On Thursday night, 29 underage migrants disembarked in Italy. However, 148 migrants still remain on board a vessel in port and according to Di Maio they will stay there until EU states promise to redistribute them.

“If tomorrow nothing comes out of a European Commission meeting on redistributing migrants from the Diciotti ship, the 5-Star and I will not be willing to give 20 billion euros each year to the EU,“ Di Maio said on Facebook.

Di Maio further said that his goal is to introduce an Australian approach to migration. Australia does not allow refugees to settle in its territory and prefers to pay for operating camps in Nauru and Papua New Guinea.

The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, criticized V4 countries for their unwillingness to accept migrants from another EU country. According to Tajani, if the EU countries had approved the European Parliament’s proposal to reform the Dublin system, they would not be dealing with the Diciotti problem now. This was the key to solution, in his point of view, because it supposed an immediate redistribution of migrants.
