Polish tragedy in Czech mine

Thirteen miners were killed and ten are injured in a methane gas explosion at Stonava mine in Karvina, Czech Republik. Twelve of the dead are Polish. President Andrzej Duda has declared the 23rd of December a national day of mourning.

“With the death of twelve Poles, who died as a result of Thursday’s methane explosion in the CSM coal mine in Karvina, Cieszyn Silesia, Sunday will be a national day of mourning,” wrote the Chancellery of the President in an official statement. 

Earlier, President Duda wrote on twitter: “Dramatic news from Silesia: “Dear Mister President, I convey sad news. It is very likely that in the mine in Karvina eleven Poles have died. Dear Lord, have the Families of the Miners in your care. RIP.”

On Thursday, a few minutes past 5pm in the Czech coal mine CSM in Karvina a methane explosion occurred. According to recent information, as a result of the explosion thirteen miners have died, ten are injured.
