The Voluntary Migration Pact forces states to accept migrants

The authors of the pact back the document by saying it is non-binding. On the other hand, critics point out that the document will change Europe forever, more than a decision of Angela Merkel to open borders in 2015.

The Pact is radical because it perceives economic migrants as being equal to political refugees. Although the document declares that it is non-binding, it sets out the general objectives to be reached by governments. That is how it reduces our sovereignty and the right to manage immigration as we want.

We should pay attention to the official position of the German government that should be considered as one of the main pillars of the Pact. The text “is conceived as legally nonbinding, but politically binding”, commentator Kaiser recalled the conclusions.

Saying that Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, and António Guterres are among the three main authors of the Pact, Kaiser drew attention to the role of Guterres. He has long been the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the organization that regularly publishes studies that migration is de facto and nothing wrong. We can often read arguments such as the West is dying out and, on the other hand, more and more children are born in Africa. Perfect match, don´t you think?

Germany has also been pushing the pact for a long time, but Angela Merkel lost a major ally shortly after the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential election. The remaining 192 governments of the world have approved the final text this July.

Soon after, Hungary, followed by other Visegrad countries as well as Austria, refused to sign the document. It could be assumed that there would be more and more opponents if the summit in Marrakech were to take place later.

Finally and unfortunately, the Pact was adopted. Now we have to wait to see how much it will be reflected in EU legislation as well as in the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. This will be decisive for us.
