Warsaw-bound passenger flight lands in Budapest after bomb threat

A Wizz Air flight from Bari to Krakow was directed to Budapest airport for an emergency landing on Wednesday following a tip about an explosive device on board.

All passengers and crew members were evacuated from flight W6 5058 as authorities checked the plane following the anonymous threat.

Budapest Airport closed its second runway due to the incident while the necessary checks were carried out.

Late on Wednesday evening, the airport announced that the closure of its second runway had been lifted, and the airport was once again operating as normal. All passengers of the flight and the airport involved in the incident are safe, Budapest Airport announced in a statement.

The announcement emphasized that the competent authorities carried out the necessary checks in accordance with the protocol and confirmed that it was a false threat. Wizz Air meanwhile scheduled a relief flight departing from Budapest at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday for the passengers to continue on to Krakow.

“The safety of our passengers and staff will always remain our top priority,” Wizz Air said in a statement.
