Russian rockets to take aim at Poland and Romania

In response to the US threatening to leave the INF treaty, Moscow has warned that they will target Poland and Romania. The US’ ultimatum comes from Russia not fulfilling the treaty’s commitments.

A new arms race is on the horizon, as both the United States and Russia will not back down. America because of the fact that Russia is not fulfilling the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). Russia claims that it will have to react to the US’ move as not to remain defenseless.

The US gave Russia two months to get back in compliance with a 1987 treaty on nuclear weapons before carrying out President Donald Trump’s threat to withdraw from the accord.

The head of Russia’s general military staff, Valery Gierasimov warns that Russia is already moving Iskander rockets closer to the Polish borders, mainly to Kaliningrad. 

Western experts claim that Russia is using a loophole to avoid the INF treaty: the new rockets formally do not fall under the INF, but their capabilities are no different from those of intermediate and short-range missiles

Russia is already breaking the INF, warned the secretary general of NATO Jens Stoltenberg. According to him, Russia has developed, produced and set up new short-range missiles which are to be invisible to radars. They are able to strike a target hundreds of kilometers away in just a matter of minutes.

The only chance to stop this arms race are the two months given to Moscow by Washington D.C to correct their arsenals. Russia considers this to be an ultimatum. If Russia does not react positively, then the US will abandon the INF treaty.

The countdown has started, and Russia has targeted Poland and Romania, where the main installations of the US defense shield is being constructed.
