Edward Mosberg (pictured above with President Andrzej Duda) was a Jew born in Kraków, Poland, and later a prisoner in the German Płaszów and Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camps.

He visited Warsaw last week to take part in the ceremony on occasion of the 100th birthday of Józef Walaszczyk, recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Israel. The title is offered by Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust museum to non-Jews who risked their lives to protect Jewish people during the Second World War.

The 93-year-old Mosberg talked about the comments from Israel’s foreign minister, Yisrael Katz, who said in February 2019 that “Poles sucked anti-Semitism with their mothers’ milk.”

Katz was not even the first Israeli to say such words, with the late prime minister of Israel, Yitzhak Shamir, making the same statement about Poles.

Katz was also quoted as saying, “There were many Poles who collaborated with the Nazis.”

“This is not only an affront to Poles and Poland; it is an affront to Christianity throughout the whole world. I have decided that as long as that person [Katz] does not apologize, I will never return to Israel,” Mosberg declared.
