Auschwitz was a German death camp run by Germans, and it is important to underline that and to clearly point out the perpetrators, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated during her visit to the former German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
During the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation in the former death camp last Friday, Merkel said that silence could not be the only answer in a place that “is a symbol of the greatest crime in human history.”
She emphasized that Auschwitz commits everyone to remember what happened and to “clearly define” the crimes committed there.
