Polish President Andrzej Duda, who is currently seeking reelection, has backed the stance taken by the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party that LGBT is an ideology which threatens to indoctrinate children and change society away from traditional family values

Addressing supporters in the town of Brzeg on Saturday, the Polish president said “that they are trying to persuade us that LGBT is a category of people, but it’s an ideology”.

He added that he “respects all people” but will not support “indoctrination”.

The president defended PiS MP Jacek Żalek, who on Friday argued in a commercial TVN interview that LGBT was an ideology rather than a category of people, and was dropped on-air by the presenter of the program for those remarks who later argued that she could not allow for the “dehumanizing of a whole category of people”.

President Duda said that the incident showed “how strong the sympathetic current for the LGBT ideology already was”.

Earlier in the week, Duda unveiled the Family Charter, which included pledges to stop any indoctrination of children with LGBT in sexual education. The charter also includes provisions defending marriage as being between a man and a woman and commitments to continue social transfers for families.
