Ledecká is one of the four sport starts shortlisted for the award and she may become the first Czech to ever win. The Czech double-gold Olympian will compete against American gymnast Simone Biles, Ukrainian boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk and Italian golf player Francesco Molinari.
In PyeongChang, Ledecká became the first woman to win a gold medal in two different sports – super G and snowboard parallel giant slalom. Molinari won all five matches at the Ryder Cup and orchestrated his European’s team triumph. Usyk is this year’s WBC, WBA and IBF world cruiserweight champion.
Last year, Roger Federer won for a fourth time in a row. The 2018 winner will be selected based on public votes and for the first time, people outside the UK are able to vote on the BBC’s website. The results will be presented on December 15th.
