A U.S. official arrived in Budapest directly from Riyadh to inform the Hungarian government about the Russian-American meeting.
The U.S. Embassy in Budapest posted: “Louis L. Bono, the senior official in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, met with Deputy Secretary of State Levente Magyar in Budapest today. The two officials discussed a range of issues important to advancing American and Hungarian security and prosperity.
“Senior official Louis Bono reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to ending the war in Ukraine in a manner that is just, lasting, sustainable, and acceptable to all parties involved.”
According to the deputy minister and parliamentary state secretary, Levente Magyar, referred to by Mandiner as the right-hand man of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the meeting with Bono gave Hungary firsthand information about the peace negotiations.
Louis Bono reportedly told Magyar that the meeting in Riyadh between Russia and the U.S. was a huge step forward and that the parties agreed on a common goal: to end the war.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also made it clear that the two countries want to restore U.S.-Russian economic and political relations, noting that they will look to restore their respective embassies.
According to the Hungarian official, Bono said U.S.-Hungarian relations are also a priority.
“The Trump administration views our country as a particularly important partner,” underlined Levente Magyar.
