Two teenage girls in Austria have reported being raped by two Algerian migrants in an apartment in Vienna’s Brigittenau district on Austria’s national holiday.

According to a police report, the teens aged just 14 and 15 managed to contact authorities after escaping the apartment, where they say they had been held and abused on the night of Nationalfeiertag which is celebrated on Oct. 26.

According to the Heute news outlet, the incident came to light when the 15-year-old girl called emergency services in the early hours, telling the authorities that she and her 14-year-old friend had been raped.

The police report indicated that the girls encountered two Algerian nationals, aged 31 and 17, earlier in the evening and eventually accompanied them to an acquaintance’s apartment.

Once there, the atmosphere reportedly changed as the girls were intimidated and forced to take drugs. According to a police spokesman, “The 31-year-old is said to have held a gun to the 14-year-old’s head.” Following this, the girls say they were raped by the men.

The teens were able to escape after their attackers fell asleep and quickly contacted authorities.

Police, with support from the Wega special operations unit, arrived at the scene shortly after, arresting the men and recovering a plastic replica pistol discarded in a garbage bag.

The men, who reportedly only recently met the girls, deny the allegations and have not confessed to any wrongdoing.

Currently, both suspects remain in custody with investigations ongoing.
