Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has weighed in on the current war in the Middle East, tying Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz to Ukraine’s blocking the Friendship Oil Pipeline, calling Zelensky’s decision an “assassination attempt” on Hungary.
“At today’s national security briefing, we reviewed satellite images of the Druzhba oil pipeline. The images clearly show there is no technical reason for the shutdown. Zelensky is not telling the truth,” Szijjártó posted on X.
“At a time when maritime oil transport is uncertain due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, blocking a functioning land supply route is a direct attack against Hungary. By halting the Druzhba pipeline in this international crisis, Ukraine is deliberately undermining Hungary’s energy security,” Szijjártó continued.
Remix News has just reported that European natural gas futures have soared 50 percent to a one-year high. QatarEnergy has suspended liquified natural gas production at the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed complexes. The sites produce 20 percent of the world’s LNG supply.
Szijjártó also posted a video message on Facebook, in which he clearly accused Kyiv of attacking Hungary: “As maritime oil transport has become uncertain due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, blocking a well-functioning land pipeline oil transport route in this situation is an attack on Hungary. By blocking the operation of the Friendship oil pipeline in this period of international crisis, President Zelensky is committing an attack on Hungary.”
The Hungarian foreign minister also pointed out that opposition leader Péter Magyar, whose Tisza party is neck and neck with the ruling Fidesz, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, is an “accomplice” in this act of aggression against Hungary, given Magyar’s continuous support for Ukraine and Brussels’ agenda for continuing the war and allowing Ukraine into the EU.
“And in this assassination, the Tisza Party is the accomplice of President Zelensky and Ukraine, as we all know that the agreements that led to the Ukrainians blocking the operation of the Friendship pipeline were made in Munich,” he concluded, referencing the recent Munich Security Conference.
‼️ Satellite images prove that there is no technical obstacle to restarting the Friendship oil pipeline.

Orbán also posted yet another message on X, calling on Zelensky to resume transit of oil and gas to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline. “Satellite images prove that there is no technical obstacle to restarting the Friendship oil pipeline. I call on President Zelensky to immediately resume oil deliveries!”
Hungary will hold parliamentary elections this April and has openly called election interference by Zelensky for attempting to create an energy crisis. Now, with the war in Iran and energy prices soaring, tensions are boiling over due to Kyiv’s continued refusal to allow land-based transit of oil and gas to the landlocked country of Hungary.
