Consequences of war on Iran could be ‘disastrous, much longer-term’ warns former NATO director

The Polish diplomat also emphasized that much of the "backbone" of the Iranian regime is still in place but it is impossible to talk about destroying it without proper information

Polish diplomat Robert Pszczel is warning that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards is still operational and that the globe will all feel the consequences of the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran.

Former director of the NATO Information Office in Moscow, Robert Pszczel, pointed out on Monday on Polsat News, as cited by Do Rzeczy, that a new war could have consequences that will be felt in various corners of the world. He cited oil prices as an example.

“If this situation persists, we will suffer at gas stations,” he noted.

While gas prices are soaring, the conflict has also already spread throughout the region, including Lebanon, Iraq, Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

“This is inevitable in a sense,” Pszczel said. “But the key question is how long it would last, and everyone, let’s say experts and others, is wondering how long the military operation would last, but if this were combined with some form of quasi-disintegration or great chaos in Iran itself, the consequences would be disastrous, much longer-term.”

The expert also commented on reports of numerous victims of the Israeli-American attack among representatives of the Iranian authorities.

“It seems very likely, as there’s a lot of evidence from sources confirming that they were waiting, regardless of this large military grouping, for the moment when these people, who until recently, just a few days ago, constituted the absolute core of power in Iran, would actually meet in one place. Of course, they made a huge mistake; they didn’t learn anything from experience, right? Because there have been similar situations before, and they were decapitated. So, basically, practically the entire leadership was killed,” Pszczel said.

At the same time, the diplomat stressed that it was impossible to talk about the destruction of the entire regime.

“The regime is already a very large group of people, and many questions concern, for example, the role that its own state structures will play, the Ministry of Defense, the headquarters, and the like. There is a guard that is essentially the backbone of this regime,” he said, referring to the  Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). “They continue to operate (…) Internet access is currently limited, but information from the inside seems to be reaching them,” emphasized Pszczel.

He also added that it is difficult to assess what may be possible at this stage in terms of regime change. “I believe that those who claim that it will definitely not be possible to bring about a regime change in this situation do not have such strong arguments because we simply do not know,” he said.
