Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Facebook page is reportedly restricted and has seen a drastic drop in engagement, according to X influencer Mario Nawfal. Nawfal says that a former Meta employee now working for the Tisza opposition called for users to mass report Orbán’s content, which may account for the drop in engagement on the highly influential platform.
“As Hungary heads toward a crucial April election, Facebook is reportedly restricting posts from the country’s Prime Minister. The move followed a call by an opposition party (Tisza Party) member, a former Meta employee, urging supporters to mass-report his content,” wrote Nawfal.

Nawfal further stated that Tisza leader Péter Magyar has seen a surge in engagement, even outperforming world leaders from much larger countries. In addition, Magyar has been given a key advantage in the manner in which his profile is structured.
“Meanwhile, Tisza leader Péter Magyar has disproportionately high engagement figures, outperforming global figures, despite operating in a much smaller, language-limited country. Péter also used a personal “professional mode” profile rather than a political page, contrary to Meta’s long-standing guidelines, potentially bypassing limits on political content,” wrote Nawfal.
“Questions are also emerging around how Meta moderates political content in Hungary. A regional Meta official has publicly shared positions aligned with mainstream European narratives, including pro-Ukraine messaging and content seen as anti-government in Hungary,” he continued.
Nawfal is now calling out the platform, which he accuses of putting the finger on the scale of the Hungarian opposition. In what might be a serious piece of supporting evidence to Nawfal’s claims, the European Conservative recently had its Facebook page suspended. The news outlet is funded by a Hungarian government organization.
“SHAMELESS attack against the European Conservative in progress. Meta took our Facebook page down for ‘going against their Community Standards.” Telling the truth against the mainstream media is only met with censorship. We are appealing the decision now, let’s see how it goes!”
