A German citizen, of Albanian descent, destroyed three police vehicles with an iron bar and smashed up a bank window in the city of Arnsberg. Eventually, a police officer shot the rampaging man in the leg, but video of the incident has police coming under fire for their inaction.

The police report indicates a “40-year-old German citizen of Albanian descent had previously used an iron rod to cause significant damage to buildings and three police emergency vehicles.”

Officers arrived on scene at Clemens-August-Straße. The report notes that officers approached him and he responded by threatening them and approaching them with an iron bar.

As the video of the incident shows, the officers held back from using force for quite some time, and at one point, the suspect chases one officer around a vehicle with his iron rod.

Eventually, one of the officers opened fire on the man, shooting him in the leg. So far, there is no video of this incident. The man was seriously injured, but his wound was not life-threatening. He is being treated in the hospital.

The exact reason behind the rampage still remains under investigation.

Users on social media noted that Arnsberg is where the official residence of the German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, is located.

Notably, since this incident happened in North Rhine-Westphalia, police were permitted to release the migration background of the suspect. However, this is currently the only German state where crimes committed by dual citizens are reported.

Notably, in the German federal statistics, all crimes recorded for this individual will be recorded as a “German national” due to the fact that the man has German citizenship. As Remix News and many others have noted, this creates a highly distorted picture in terms of crime statistics.
