Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó is betting on peace and is eager to get relations with Moscow back on track.

“At a quarter to three, even the roosters are rubbing their eyes, but we have to leave because the sun rises earlier to the east of us… and so do the negotiating partners,” Szijjártó wrote on Facebook.

Highlighting the ongoing U.S.-Russian peace talks and his hopes for global security, Szijjártó also reiterated Hungary’s continuous push for peace and open communication channels to achieve it.

“The U.S.-Russian peace talks reached another milestone yesterday, making the world a safer place again. We have been saying for three years that communication channels must be kept open,” he wrote.

Szijjártó explained that his Moscow trip would focus on peace, secure energy supplies, and “enhanced economic cooperation.”

Over on X, the Hungarian foreign minister also reiterated his country’s stance against Ukraine’s EU membership on Monday, calling attention to those countries that have been waiting and are, in his words, “more prepared” to join the bloc, specifically North Macedonia.
