Polish President Karol Nawrocki is set to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán “soon,” with the president’s spokesman, Rafał Leśkiewicz, emphasizing the importance of Polish-Hungarian relations.
Leśkiewicz confirmed to the Polish Press Agency that a meeting between the Polish head of state and the Hungarian prime minister is planned.
As to what the two leaders may discuss, the spokesman gave no details. “Let’s wait for the meeting, which will likely take place soon. I can’t say when yet, but there are no firm agreements between President Karol Nawrocki and Viktor Orbán,” he said, as cited by the Do Rzeczy news portal.
“Polish-Hungarian relations are extremely important to us,” he emphasized, adding that he could not say anything further about the meeting itself or “any agreements to be reached.”
Orbán posted a message on social media last week after János Bóka, Hungarian minister for European Union affairs, visited Poland.
“He brought the best news from the Polish president. We will start rebuilding Polish-Hungarian cooperation,” Orbán wrote.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, this situation opens up the possibility of strengthening the Visegrad Group (V4), which also includes the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“Fico is holding strong, Babiš is at the gates, the V4 can rebuild in January. Let’s get started!” he wrote, referring to the upcoming presidential elections in the Czech Republic and the assassination attempt on the Slovak prime minister during his election campaign.
