However, the Czech Republic as a small member state cannot profit from Brussels wiping the floor with Britain and punishing it for sticking to national interests. If the EU rulers succeed, they will soon target us. It’s in our best interest to have the softest Brexit possible and to keep cooperation between the EU and UK at the highest level.
Britain is not the one to blame for this crisis, unrealistic views of those who have been leading the EU are. Needless to say most Czechs do not approve of the EU’s policy towards the UK. So we should call for its recalibration and hold its bearers responsible, not help them to hide their incapability with calling Brits stupid or pointing at Russian propaganda and fake news.
The current EU path towards the further centralization and weaker member states is threatening our country. Czech citizens didn’t vote for accession to the EU to be under rule of a new empire. Brexit is the first disaster on the EU’s path and it’s an obligation for Czech foreign policy to use it for its own good.
