‘Look how dictators end up’ — Polish conservatives issue inflammatory warning to Donald Tusk after Maduro capture

Another PiS MP called his colleagues' posts "idiotic," reminding that "elections in a democratic country are won fairly, according to the rules"

Some politicians and supporters of Poland’s right-wing Law & Justice party (PiS) have begun to compare the situation of their prime minister, Donald Tusk, with that of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was captured by the U.S. and taken prisoner.

“Look, Donald Tusk, how dictators end up,” wrote PiS MEP Mariusz Kamiński on X.

Similar statements did not go down well with some of the party’s politicians, writes Do Rzeczy, citing a report out of Wirtualna Polska.

“This labels us as lunatics,” one of the party’s MPs told the website. Another politician didn’t hide his anger, pointing out that they were once again forced to explain “some idiotic posts.”

“Elections in a democratic country are won fairly, according to the rules, as the presidential election demonstrated, even though one side tried to undermine it. Tusk is an extremely harmful politician, but he’s not a dictator. Kamiński and Sakiewicz are harmful,” he said.

PiS MP Radosław Fogiel commented on the law on Monday on Polish Radio: “I think that Americans are not stupid enough to think that they need Donald Tusk for anything, we would also be happy to get rid of him.”

“Tusk and his circle are very hurt by the fact that Americans do not talk to them and at least this way they try to attract attention, a bit like the donkey in Shrek,” he continued.

“If the court recently wrote in the justification of its decision that in Poland we are dealing with a government of the nature of a crypto-dictatorship, then it is a warning signal, and it would be good if Donald Tusk did not follow the path leading to dictatorship,” he said.

Another senior PiS politician sang the same tune.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński published a post in which he directly compared Tusk to Maduro.

“Tusk is politically responsible for the torture and human rights violations of government opponents, including women and clergy, as well as M. Kamiński, who was force-fed through his nose in prison, even though they knew he would be released in a few hours. This is how dictators operate. Tusk will also be held accountable for this,” Gliński wrote on the X website.

Earlier, the editor-in-chief of Telewizja Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz, published a post on X with the following text: “Assad, Maduro… Tusk?”

Sakiewicz also shared the post by PiS MP Mariusz Kamiński, accompanied by a photo of the Venezuelan president and the comment: “See @donaldtusk, how dictators end up.”
