The police are currently investigating graffiti targeting statues Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady Immaculate as well as the church itself, which is located in Szczecin, Poland.
The attack on the church follows a pattern of churches being targeted across Poland and the broader trend of attacks rising across Europe against Christians and their places of worship.
The parish of Our Lady of Jasna Góra in Szczecin announced that the incident took place on the night between last Saturday and Sunday. The figures of Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady Immaculate and their chapel were profaned and vandalized by unknown perpetrators.
Upside-down red crosses were painted on both statues, while the chapel itself was profaned with a reverse pentagram.
“This sad incident took place last night. The figures of Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady Immaculate in front of our church were profaned and destroyed. Did someone see anything? Where is this world heading? Ave Maria!” the parish wrote on social media.
Lieutenant Ewelina Gryszpan of the Szczecin police stated that officers have currently carried out procedural steps such as investigating the area in which the incident occurred, prepared photographic documentation and secured camera footage.
The prosecutor’s office has also been informed about the incident.
