In a shocking surveillance video that revealed a Black male suspect smashing a sleeping Dutch man’s head with a concrete slab in Rotterdam, police are ramping up efforts to find the suspect, including the release of a more detailed photo of the man inside a supermarket.

The video has left the Netherlands in shock, which shows a Black male suspect carefully watching a sleeping homeless Dutch man before searching for a concrete slab. He then approaches the 37-year-old man and hurls it on top of the man’s head, resulting in critical injuries. The victim remains in the hospital.

Police have released the clearest photo of the suspect yet, which showed him in a Rotterdam supermarket shortly before the attack, according to HLN.

There appears to be no motive for the attack and the victim was chosen at random.

The brutal assault took place on Tuesday morning just before 4:00 am at the entrance of the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam. There are worries that the man may strike again if he is not caught soon.

The news program “Opsporing Verzocht” previously showed images of the incident, which showed the suspect throwing the paving stone on top of the sleeping victim’s head.

He then ran away from the scene. There is reason to believe the suspect has fled to Belgium. The police do not know the man’s identity but they have already received tips from a number of sources.

There is reason to believe the suspect was in Breda a few hours after the assault and took a train at 7:00 a.m. between Antwerp and Brussels. Belgian police are aiding in the search for the man. It is unclear if he remains in Brussels or has moved on to another location.

Dutch police say it is “of the utmost importance that the man is quickly identified and arrested to prevent further incidents.”
