Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon says Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will serve Europe best in terms of dealing with President-elect Trump in Europe, as he is most in line with the MAGA movement.

Other names touted as the best person to mediate between the incoming Trump administration and Brussels are France’s Marine Le Pen, the U.K.’s Nigel Farage, and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni. Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki put forth his name and that of Meloni as the best options, according to Poltico’s Playbook, although he did also note Orbán’s good relations with the president-elect.

However, Bannon questioned Meloni’s suitability. “You say you are a right-wing woman? Prove it: not on cultural issues but on war, money and power,” he told the Corriere della Sera at the New York Young Republicans gala last month, further stating that she had “positioned herself with the globalists.”

Meloni has made headlines recently for her new-found friendship with Elon Musk, who is well known to be helping Trump make many key cabinet decisions before taking office. However, many are also questioning if the Trump-Musk alliance will endure.

A Bannon associate told Magyar Nemzet that Orbán has consistently supported Trump, both behind the scenes and in public, which has resulted in a strong personal relationship that makes him an ideal choice as a mediator between Europe and the United States.

Trump has spoken to the Hungarian prime minister several times on the phone since his re-election and has even received him in person at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.

Clearly, the role as mediator between Trump and Brussels would do a great deal in helping Orbán strengthen his position in the EU. Hungary has just recently lost €1 billion in EU aid and was slapped with a €200 million fine, plus €1 million daily, for not adhering to Brussels’ migration rules.
