Tuesday saw the unveiling of Poland’s first brand of electric cars.
The brand’s name, Izera, as well as its logo were shown, along with two vehicle prototypes – a white SUV and a red hatchback.
According to the CEO of state-owned company ElectroMobility Poland, Piotr Zaremba, the name “Izera” was inspired by the Izera Mountains on the border between Czechia and Poland.
The name is meant to refer to cooperation between international partners.
The director for the technical development of the product, Łukasz Maliczenko explained that Izera cars are predicted to leave production lines in Q3 of 2023.
A factory and production line are to be established between Q2 and Q3 of 2021. The factory will be built in Silesia. Due diligence has been conducted and ElectroMobility Poland is currently in the process of purchasing the required area.
The director of the project office of ElectroMobility Poland, Małgorzata Królak underlined that the creation of a Polish electric car is a huge chance for the economy. She pointed out that the automotive industry is the second largest industrial sector in Poland and generates 8 percent of the country’s GDP.
She emphasized that Poland is the only large European country which does not have its own car brand.
Królak also explained that Izera will allow for the creation of 3,500 jobs and an additional 3,000 down the line. She added that if one includes the surroundings, the production of the car could create an even further 12,000 jobs in total.
The car is meant to be sold through an instalment program, in which the car’s price and fuel (electric energy) will be included in a monthly instalment – this is to make the car highly affordable.
ElectroMobility Poland has also announced that it is currently conducting negotiations with other state-owned companies to finance the project, as well as two international companies to deliver a platform on which Izera will be built.
Izera is meant to be a highly spacious vehicle, which will reach the speed of 100 kilometers per hour in less than 8 seconds. Its range is to be 400 kilometers and owing to fast charging, it will reach 80 percent of its battery capacity in half an hour. Two battery charges are to be included.
