This heating season will be the first season of truth. It will show us what our expenses look like for heating, water heating, for fuel, Agnieszka Łakoma, a columnist for “Gazeta Bankowa” and commentator on the economy told wPolsce24.

Łakoma, who specializes in energy, fuel and gas, did not bring good news.

“It looks like we will be paying more (for electricity) this season,” she said. Almost 20 percent more, to be exact, and next year will be even more expensive.

“This year we pay PLN 1.15 (€0.27) per kilowatt-hour, and from the beginning of 2025, we will pay PLN 1.38 (€0.32). This is an approved tariff,” she said.

The second issue is the increase in the heating tariff. In the second half of this year, prices are going up by 15 percent, and from the beginning of next year by 30 percent.

“And we must also remember gas price increases, which have amounted to 20 percent more already in this half of the year,” the columnist warned.

“The increases amount to thousands of zlotys. And the saddest thing is that this is not the end,” said Łakoma, as in two years the EU emission tax will come into effect. “We will all pay for it,” she added.

Inflation has been an ongoing problem in Poland, with the country hit with higher food prices this past summer and yet again this fall.
