Conservative Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński’s favorite to run for president in upcoming elections is reportedly Karol Nawrocki, the head of the Institute of National Remembrance. The problem is that he is the least recognizable among all announced and potential presidential candidates, according to the latest polling.
That information, along with numerous polls showing the conservatives losing the upcoming election to the liberals, bodes poorly for Nawrocki’s chances. If the liberals win, it would give Prime Minister Donald Tusk vastly more power with a liberal president in place. Currently, Polish President Andrzej Duda serves as a check on legislation in parliament through his veto.
The recognition of potential presidential candidates was examined in a survey conducted by the research company Opinia24 on behalf of Radio ZET.
“The most well-known are the leaders of political parties and heads of government and they are the ones who open the recognition ranking,” according to Radio ZET. In first place, with a score of 98 percent, were Donald Tusk and Mateusz Morawiecki.
However, all the way at the bottom of the ranking is Nawrocki, with only 39 percent of those polled recognizing him.
There is a great deal of confusion surrounding the Law and Justice candidate for president. On Thursday, Telewizja Republika, and then Polsat News, reported that the choice would be Karol Nawrocki, who in the race for the nomination was supposed to have beaten, among others, Przemysław Czarnek and Tobiasz Bocheński.
It should be noted that all media reports were denied by PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek.
“In connection with many questions regarding our candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, as well as numerous media publications, I would like to inform you that no decision has been made in this matter. The PiS leadership will announce who the PiS candidate will be in the coming days,” Bochenek wrote on the X portal.
