Father Grzegorz Dymek, 59, pastor of the Our Lady of Fatima parish in Kłobuck, was murdered in the rectory, reports Do Rzeczy.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening, the police received a report of a fight in the rectory, where they then discovered the body of a 59-year-old priest. The information was confirmed by Asp. Michał Tomanek from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice.
A local news site, klobucka.pl., reported that an initial investigation indicates the priest was killed during a robbery. Forensic technicians from the Kłobuck police are working at the scene.
“59-year-old priest Grzegorz from the parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Kłobuck is dead. According to our unofficial findings (…), the priest most likely drove into the rectory garage through the gate, the automatic gate was not closed, then he went outside, then he was most likely overpowered, then tied up and murdered in the rectory basement. The murder may have a robbery motive, according to the information we have obtained. During mass, the priest had summed up the gifts collected during the recent Christmas carol service, and the faithful learned the approximate total amount — about PLN 80,000 (€19,200). For the sake of the ongoing investigation, we will provide more details about this macabre discovery soon, so as not to hinder the work of the police,” Do Rzeczy stated.
A suspect, a Polish man aged 52 who lives in Kłobuck district, has been detained. “Currently, intensive police actions are underway at the scene under the supervision of the prosecutor. The exact causes and circumstances of this incident and the role played by the 52-year-old man will be explained in the ongoing proceedings. At the moment, for the sake of the investigation, I cannot provide more details,” said cadet Joanna Wiącek-Głowacz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Kłobuck.
