More than half of Czechs are no longer afraid of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the latest data from STEM/MARK agency
In the last three weeks, according to the survey, the number of expressing fear of the virus decreased by one-third.
Interestingly, even the most vulnerable group of women over the age of 60 are no longer afraid, said an analyst at the STEM/MARK agency Bohumil Hurda. In the first research on the attitude of Czechs to the epidemic, it was women who feared the coronavirus significantly more than men.
The data collected also show that the vast majority of respondents approve of the measures introduced by the government to stop the spread of coronavirus. However, their attitude to this issue is slightly more lukewarm than at the beginning of the epidemic, as with the decreasing concerns about the coronavirus, the number of people calling for the repeal of various regulations and bans is growing.
“People are also becoming more skeptical regarding the return of life to normal. Although at the end of March they assumed that life would return to normal by the summer holidays, currently, the number of those who think it will be during the holidays or in the autumn has almost doubled,” added Hurda.
Although fears of being infected with coronavirus are declining, eight out of 10 people still try to avoid contact with others. The survey also shows that women are more afraid of contact with other people than men.
The biggest change was recorded in Moravia, in the east of the country, where the number of people who no longer try to avoid contact with other people has increased fivefold in the last three weeks.
In the last week, the number of people who are afraid to go out has also halved, with people under the age of 30 being the least worried. In this age group, only one in 10 of them is afraid to go out. On the other hand, Prague residents are most afraid to go out, which is also due to the highest concentration of infected people in the Czech capital.
So far, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic rose by 52 to 7,404 on Sunday. However, health facilities also test fewer people on weekends. The latest daily increase is the lowest since March 14.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, 2,555 people have recovered from the disease, while 221 have died of the coronavirus.
