Serbian authorities report that a suspected attack was foiled against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his family, as well as members of the Ministry of the Interior.

Two men were arrested in Kraljevo, southern Serbia, on suspicion of planning an assassination attempt against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his family, the Serbian Ministry of the Interior announced on Tuesday.

According to the information, police and secret service personnel arrested 51-year-old D.R. and 43-year-old M.R. on Monday evening because they were suspected of endangering the constitutional order and security of Serbia, according to Hungarian outlet Mandiner.

Investigators state that between December 2025 and February 2026, the suspects conspired to procure weapons to attack President Vučić, his wife and children, and Interior Ministry staff. Both suspects are to appear before the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo.

According to data from the investigation, the two men wanted to use violent means to change Serbia’s constitutional arrangements, as well as overthrow the power of the highest-level state bodies.

It remains unclear what motive the men may have had for carrying out these actions, whether anyone was funding or supporting them, or how advanced their alleged assassination plot was.

Milos Vucic, advisor to the president, stated that this plot was the result of a “relentless monstrous campaign” against Vučić. He warned that dehumanizing rhetoric can inspire attacks.
