Four Syrian youths robbed, beat, and racially insulted another group of youths on a Düsseldorf commuter train, calling them “shitty Germans.” The youth suspects are accused of demanding money, assaulting one youth, robbing all the victims of cash, and sexually assaulting two more victims.
The suspects allegedly kissed two of the female victims against their will, punched one youth in the face, and stole cash. After a public appeal went out for their arrest, the Syrians turned themselves in to the police.
The suspects have already been released by police and, due to their age, are unlikely to face any serious consequences.
The case received widespread attention due to surveillance footage of the youths, which was released across Germany.
“The police are searching for this group of young men who are said to have threatened, assaulted, and robbed passengers on an S-Bahn train. In Düsseldorf, on Friday evening. One of them even brazenly poses for the surveillance camera! We can no longer feel safe in our own country. Nowhere,” wrote Gerhard Papke, president of the German-Hungarian Society in the Federal Republic of Germany and former FDP parliamentary group leader.

The incident occurred on Dec. 19, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m. on the S28 suburban train from Düsseldorf Central Station running towards Gerresheim. The suspects initially racially insulted the other group, including using the terms “fucking Germans” and “Shitty Germans.”
Afterwards, they demanded money from the victims. When the victims refused, the youths attacked one of them, according to German news outlet Apollo News.
“The aggressors then separated one of the youths from his companions. One suspect punched him in the face; at the same time, the victim’s wallet was pulled from his jacket pocket, and cash was stolen,” the police reported.
“Two of the suspects also kissed two youths from the other group,” the police report read.
The footage, which went viral in Germany, shows the youths walking directly toward the surveillance camera. One of them looks straight into the lens and makes a pistol gesture with both hands, in what appeared to be an arrogant pose after the robbery.
After their photos went viral, the suspects, 14, 16, and two 15-year-olds, turned themselves in at a police station in Wuppertal, according to police. Some of them were accompanied by their guardians. The suspects are four Syrian nationals who have prior criminal records.
“Since there are no grounds for detention, the four youths were not arrested. They face criminal proceedings,” police added. The State Security Criminal Investigation Department is leading the investigation.
Crimes by Syrians are extraordinarily high in Germany. A new report released in October detailed how in the last 10 years, Syrians have committed over 135,000 crimes against German victims. However, this group has also committed many crimes against non-German victims.
In one German state, foreign youth violence soared 383 percent since 2013, which has led to a serious crisis in the German school system.
